transmission swap + axle replacement
Bought a used transmission from an acquaintance, turns out I had already met him once while downtown, he was driving his yellow CVCC civic (70's civic, I think?). Took some photos, that car was sick af. Also turns out that I know his brother, he was a regular at the coffee shop I used to work at.
Transmission was from an EX civic, so it's got the right gearing :) A bit of a difference from the one I replaced, which was apparently from a jdm 96-98 Del Sol and it's apparently rare. Too bad, cause it needs a rebuild. 5th gear is taller in comparison to the new-to-me transmission meaning at 55mph, engine's at 2000 rpm. The Del Sol transmission? I could drove at 60 mph at be at 2000 rpm, saves a bit of gas. Oh well.
I was extremely hesitant and avoidant in getting started, mainly because last like was a total PITA and took me 3 days, but then I realized that I also did a clutch and flywheel replacement, along with a rear main seal. Total tome to swap the transmission: 1.5 days
I couldn't use the jack to reinstall the transmission so I foolishly went under the car with the transmission one my torso, and pushed it up and tried to line it up with an extra 2 pairs of hands. Ended up using my knee to brace it, 1/10 do not recommend.
rear trailing arm + control arm replacement
Replaced my rear trailing arms due to extreme misalignment after being hit from the side. Both rear wheels weren't pointing straight, yikes. Tried to upgrade to Integra rear disc brakes but forgot to grab the brake hoses and the parking cables, oops. Ended up reusing the drum brakes + wheel hubs, but realized afterwards one of the wheels hub were also damaged, making constant whirring noise.
I also replaced the control arms (also slightly bent) with the same Integra's control arms. Used, rubber bushings unfortunately, but at least I can reuse my old rear sway bar.
wheel swap/ downgrade - stock 14 inch steelies
Replaced my 205/50/15 wheels, had brand new tires before I got hit and didn't want to ruin the tires with the sudden bad alignment. Had both rear wheels scrubbing and left tons of tire dust on my rear bumper. I don't love the look of steelies but better than ruining a new set of wheels. Might paint them black so they can at least look half decent.
oil change
Standard 5w/30 w el cheapo microgard filter since the shop had a sale. Definitely have several oil leaks currently but at least the rear main isn't one of them. Crankshaft, oil pan gasket, head gasket, and I think the vtec solenoid. But hey, if it leaks, it's got oil in it.
